AFRICAN DRUM & DANCE WORKSHOP

1-4 p.m.: Dorchester Center for the Arts, 321 High Street, Cambridge, MD;

Both children and adults are invited to enjoy this workshop sponsored by Alpha Genesis Community Development Corporation, a 501(c)3 organization. The event is partially funded by a grant from Dorchester Center for the Arts through the Maryland State Arts Council, and will be held on the 2nd floor at DCA. Leading the workshop is Baba Dennis Minus and team, with over 25 years of experience using drumming and folkloric dance to teach children and adults. Minus has worked with numerous theater programs, including the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre Company and the Black Arts Theatre Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While in Milwaukee, he was Company Manager for the Great American Children’s Theatre Company. Working with the Ko-Thi Dance Company in Milwaukee, Dennis studied with renowned artists including Katherine Dunham, Joe Hall (dance), Mor Thiam, Ladji Camara, Baba Olatunji (African Drumming), and the National Dance Troupes of Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon. After Milwaukee came a stint in New York City and then a move to Delaware, where Minus became the founder and Artistic Director of the Daande Lenol African Ballet and Drum Company of Delaware State University. He is also the Artistic Director and co-founder of the Sankofa African dance and Drum Company of Dover.
