Galestown, the northernmost town in Dorchester County near the Delaware line, was named for one of the town’s first citizens, Dr. George Gale. Galestown is a pleasant community settled along a creek and around a mill pond. Among the earliest establishments in Galestown was a gristmill on the site of the Galestown Millpond. The water wheel which ran the mill is still at its original location. Galestown has two Methodist churches. Wheatley United Methodist Church, the oldest church with continuing services in the Peninsula Conference and Galestown United Methodist Church that was organized in 1855.
