  • Due to COVID-19 the 11th Anniversary for Celebrate Dorchester is postponed to a later date. The event is designed to allow Dorchester County residents to celebrate all we have to offer related to food and our heritage.  Each year we gather local ingredients from purveyors in the County: Fresh seafood, meat, poultry, grains, fruit and vegetables, all grown and raised in the region. We then give those ingredients to local chefs to use to produce a dish to serve attendees at the event.  The chefs do not know what they will get and are competing with other local chefs to produce a dish worthy of the People Choice Award.

Dorchester County has a rich tradition of agriculture that produces an abundance of quality produce, seafood, meats, and poultry. Many of our local farmers create added value to these crops with the creation of local yogurts, cheeses, wines, and other artisan products. Regional chefs and bakers revel in the fresh ingredients as they create culinary delicacies that attract visitors from far and wide. We are fortunate to live in a region where we have such a wealth of fresh, quality foods readily available to us.

“Locavores” are people who make a serious effort to eat locally produced food as often as possible.  Consumers increasingly consider a food’s origin, the agricultural production methods utilized in growing and harvesting it, and the freshness of food in their purchase decisions. Not surprisingly, this has led to a growing demand for locally grown produce and products. By being a locavore, you support your local farmers, local waterman and your local economy. Farm-to-Table Initiatives, Farmers Markets, Seafood Markets, Pick-Your-Own Farms, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) make it easy to discover the fabulous taste of locally produced foods, while providing healthful benefits to you and your family.

So, come, be a locavore! Celebrate the freshness of Dorchester-produced foods, the artistry of our local chefs, the excellence of our County’s businesses, and the camaraderie of our friends and neighbors!
