Sail on a Skipjack
Experience a sail on the scenic Choptank River aboard the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester, a traditional oystering vessel and an icon of the Chesapeake Bay. On most sails, you can watch the crew demonstrate dredging for oysters. Each sail is unique depending on wind, weather, captain and crew. On most Saturdays from May through October, the Nathan offers two-hour sails. Sails depart from Long Wharf Dock, near the corner of High and Water Streets in Cambridge, Maryland. Adults: $35, children 6-12: $10, under 6: free. For details and to reserve by credit card, go to www.skipjack-nathan.org. Private charters are also available. The Nathan carries up to 20 passengers. The Nathan also offers some sunset cruises. NOTE: All public sails depart from Long Wharf, EXCEPT September 28, which departs from the Dorchester County Boat Basin (park your car at the County Office Building, 501 Court Lane, Cambridge, MD) because of the IRONMAN Maryland triathlon happening the same day.
