• Chris Metzger is TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s November 2024 DAISY Awardee

Chris Metzger, RN, is TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s DAISY Award recipient for November 2024.

SALISBURY – Chris Metzger, RN, of TidalHealth Peninsula Regional’s 5 South patient care unit, has been selected as the November 2024 recipient of the DAISY Award for his compassionate care and special attention provided to a recent patient during an extremely emotional and traumatic time.

In her nomination, the patient wrote:

“Chris has been my nurse a few times and is always polite, goes above and beyond what is expected to make sure I’m well taken care of, and always has the time to answer any questions I have about my care and care plan. And, when he doesn’t have the answers, he finds them. He’s a very knowledgeable nurse and always smiling. Even when my CNA wasn’t available to assist me, Chris stepped in to take care of those needs himself. It would be great if every nurse did what he does to make sure that his patients are happy.”

Metzger was recently honored with the DAISY Award in a ceremony before his colleagues. He received certificates commending him for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called A Healer's Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.

The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
