City of Cambridge Announces Tentative Road Resurvacing Schedule

Cambridge, MD (April 14, 2025). With the return of Spring, road work will resume in Cambridge. The City is pleased to announce a tentative schedule for road resurfacing, beginning with sidewalk crossing improvements for selected streets in mid-April, with paving running through this fall. This year the City will resurface approximately 11,750 linear feet or about 2.2 miles of street.  

The Engineering Department maintains a list of streets in need of resurfacing, with the worst streets receiving the highest priority. A “Pavement Condition Study” was conducted in 2018 by the consulting firm IMS, a company specializing in roadway pavement assessments, to help the City determine the priority list.

The annual paving project will be undertaken by the David A. Bramble Company, which was awarded the project through a competitive bid last September. The company successfully completed the City’s FY23/24 paving project, including Pine Street from High Street to Cedar Street.

The Mayor and Commissioners of Cambridge budgeted $600,000 for road resurfacing in the current fiscal year. The City determined, after the contract had been awarded, that sidewalk crossings on the priority streets would need to be improved to meet the most current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Thirty-four crosswalks have been identified at paving locations and will be upgraded to meet these standards. The sidewalk upgrades must be completed prior to resurfacing and are expected to take about two weeks to finish. David A. Bramble Company will make these additional required sidewalk improvements without exceeding the total monies set aside by the Commissioners to complete this year’s repaving project.

The schedule for paving is tentative and is subject to change from factors such as rain and temperature, or unexpected subbase road problems discovered through the milling process.
