Dr. Casey Scott Appointed as Dorchester County Health Officer
The Dorchester County Council is pleased to announce their recommendation and appointment of Dr. Casey Scott as the Health Officer for Dorchester County, following the upcoming retirement of Roger Harrell.
Dr. Scott brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role. With over 11 years in the public health field, Dr. Scott has worked in various capacities, including her tenure with the Dorchester County Health Department as Deputy Health Officer and Medical Director. Her leadership has been instrumental in advancing key health initiatives. Dr. Scott is board certified in Family Medicine, a diplomat of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer.
Scott was born and raised in Cambridge, Maryland. After graduating from Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, she attended the University of Maryland College Park, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2005. Dr. Scott obtained her medical degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore in 2010, and went on to complete a residency in Family Medicine at the same campus, where she served as Chief Resident. Scott worked in academic medicine after training, teaching both medical students and residents. She completed her Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2019.

The County Council would like to extend their gratitude to Maryland Department of Health Deputy Secretary, Public Health Services Nilesh Kalyanaraman, Erin Penniston, Chief of Staff, Public Health Services and Janet Esser, Assistant Director, MDH Office of Human Resources, for their invaluable assistance throughout the recruitment process.
