• November TidalHealth Nanticoke Daisy and Sunshine honorees

TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Ben Sabean, RN, of the Surgical Specialties and Robotics Unit (SSRU), has been selected as its Daisy Award recipient for November 2024.
Sabean was nominated by a patient’s wife for the care and compassion he provided. She wrote:

“Ben provided my husband excellent care!  He was very quick to respond to his request and questions, his communication was very good, and he explained each medication prior to administering it. He was very kind to not only my husband but also to me, always making me feel welcome in the room while giving respectful and compassionate care. We really felt that Ben was on our side and fighting right along with us!  We have been to this hospital many times without complaint, but we really feel the quality of our hospital was exceeded during this stay.  Thank you, Ben, for making these days better!”

Sabean was honored with the Daisy Award in a ceremony before his colleagues. He received certificates commending him for being an extraordinary nurse, and a sculpture called “A Healer's Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, Calif., and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Barnes died at age 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease.
The care Barnes and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

TidalHealth Nanticoke is pleased to announce that Shaymija Dowdell, CST, of the Surgical Specialties and Robotics Unit (SSRU), has been selected as its Sunshine Award recipient for November 2024.
Dowdell was recognized for her professionalism, kindness, and compassion. In nominating her, the wife of a patient said:

“Shaymija was so wonderful and kind. She provided my husband exceptional care, was extremely helpful with everything he needed, and she also asked me repeatedly if I needed anything. She made me feel comfortable, not like I was in the way, as she continuously smiled through her shift. Her smile is contagious! She just made his tough situation better by her upbeat personality! We are so grateful that she was his tech and super good at her job! She made his whole hospital environment better!
Thank you, Shay for your excellent care! She even came in to say goodbye and have a nice day.”

Dowdell was honored in a ceremony before her coworkers and presented with fresh flowers, a pin and a certificate recognizing her exceptional devotion to team and patient care.
